Vaccinations for Your Dog or Cat

Best Friends Animal Health Center’s outstanding veterinarians know that most pets are healthy and many never slow down even for a moment. In fact, if your dog or cat looks fine, he or she probably is. To keep your cat or dog in the best of health, vaccinations are very important.

We’ll listen to your questions and observations. Your lifestyle and your pet’s will be taken into consideration when we determine the right course of vaccinations.

Feline

We follow the guidelines and recommendations for kittens and cats as set by the Feline Practitioners Association.

FVRCP FVRCP vaccine protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis (Herpes 1), calicivirus, and panleukopenia. This series is recommended::

• 8 weeks
• 12 weeks
• 16 weeks
• Annual booster 1 year later and boosters every 2 years

Leukemia vaccination is recommended once the negative disease status for Leukemia has been established. The schedule is as follows:

• 12 weeks
• 16 weeks
• Annual booster 1 year later and boosters every 2 years

Rabies is an infectious disease of animals with zoonotic (transmissible to people) potential, it is required by law to have each and every dog or cat vaccinated. We recommend:

• 12 weeks
• 1 year later and then boosters yearly

Canine

Bordetella protects against bordetella bronchiosepta, commonly known as kennel cough, and is recommended:

• 10-12 weeks
• 16 weeks
• Boosters annually

DHPP (Distemper) vaccine protects against distemper, hepatitis (adenovirus 1), parainfluenza, and parvovirus, and is recommended:

• 6 weeks
• 8 weeks
• 12 weeks
• 16 weeks
• Annual booster 1 year later and then every 3 years
