Orthopedic Surgery

There are a wide range of orthopedic problems seen in our patients. These can very from emergency fractures to malformations to ligament tears or other injuries that lead to chronic arthritis. At Best Friends we are prepared to care for your pet in any of these situations!

Orthopedic procedures offered at Best Friends:

  • Fracture repair using a wide variety of techniques including bone plating.
  • Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) repair - This is one of the most common injuries to large breed dogs. It is the partial or complete tear of a major ligament in the knee that gives the joint stability. We offer multiple surgical repair options.

Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA) is the newest, most advanced treatment for ACL tears. It is less invasive and equally as effective that the TPLO. This is an extremely effective repair that is suited for any dog with a partial              or complete cranial cruciate tear. This method uses titanium plates, screws, and support cages providing the highest compatibility with the body. This reconstructive surgery is designed to eliminate the forces placed on the knee   that tore the ligament initially. By doing this, the ligament is no longer needed.

  • Luxating patella repair
  • Femoral head and neck excision as salvage procedure for severe hip dysplasia/dislocation
  • Correction of developmental abnormalities

We provide consultation on any orthopedic problem and evaluate the need for surgical intervention on a case by case basis.
